The Velux Solar Hot Water System uses simple but effective technology. The solar collectors absorb the energy from the sum and transfer the heat to the systems fluid. This fluid is pumped through the system and the heat is them transferred into your hot water store. When there is not enough energy from the sun then your boiler will provide the heat required automatically, controlled by your Hot Water control panel.

What if the suns not out or it’s cloudy?

Solar collectors use irradiation of the sun, so even if it’s a cloudy day they can still absorb significant energy. When the sun shines then the collectors will absorb more energy.

Do I still need a boiler?

Yes, because the suns energy isn’t constant all year round you will need a back up heat source. This can be a boiler or even an immersion heater.
